Jeff Gray

Varsity Head Coach

Girls Varsity Basketball

Jeff Gray was hired as Nute High School’s Girls Varsity Basketball Coach in September 2017, after spending the 2016-17 season as Great Bay Community College Women’s Basketball Coach, competing in the Yankee Small College Conference. Under Gray’s guidance the Lady Herons exceled in the classroom achieving an average team GPA of 3.0, with several athletes ranked in Yankee Conference Top 10 in points, rebounds, steals, and assists per game.

Gray has over 20 years as a New England AAU and high school basketball coach. He is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

A native of Portsmouth, N.H., Gray graduated from Portsmouth High School as an honor student and scholar athlete.  As a freshman, he was a varsity basketball starter for the Clippers.  After high school, Gray headed to the University of New Hampshire to play Division I football on a full athletic scholarship.  He graduated in 4 years with a dual Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Mathematics.  He went on to earn his Masters of Business Administration, with distinction, from Franklin Pierce University with a concentration in Leadership & strategic planning.

Gray’s personal experience as a NCAA Division I college athlete gives him a unique insight into the process of getting athletes to reach not only their full potential, but the next level.  Gray uses his skills to assist dedicated and committed student-athletes to get where they want to be.  Those who have been coached by him will tell you Gray has a way of getting each player to recognize their best skills and abilities. Students coached by Gray excel in the classroom, taking advantage of the opportunities they have to grow both academically and athletically.

Gray says “ I believe it is the coach’s job to not only develop the level of play of the team as a whole,  but to take each individual athlete for who they are and help them to reach their full potential.  Many players coming out of high school are underdeveloped and possibly lacking a physical or mental attribute that may be preventing them from performing at their highest level.  I develop a relationship with the players who play for me, allowing me to help overcome whatever may be holding them back so they can elevate their game to the next level.” Under Gray’s tutelage the Great Bay Lady Herons earned an average team GPA of 3.0, while athletes ranked in the Yankee Conference top 10 in points, rebounds, steals, and assists per game.

Jeff, his wife Lisa, and their five children reside in Somersworth, N.H.
