Nail Biter Thursday!!!
Nute faced off against Portsmouth Middle School on Thursday September 28th. The JV game started off a bit slow on the Rams side of things, having lots of issues trying to pick up serves and return volleys left the JV team with an unwanted loss in the first two games; Newcomer Sierra Iob had four consecutive overhand serves during the first and last game. Helping Nute bring in a win on the last game.
The Rams varsity team fared much better in the nail biting first game against Portsmouth. The two teams were well matched against each other with long volleys and great serve receives. Some fantastic plays by all Nute girls including Penelope Ayotte, 8th grader, with some great spikes and tips back at Portsmouth. Ava Nunes had some one-on-one action with sets and tips back and forth with some Portsmouth players.
Trailing by 12 points in the first game, Emma golf stepped up and served 10 consecutive serves and with the help of her teammates they kept the serve on their side to tie the game 24 to 24. Losing the serve on a fantastic volley Portsmouth gained one more point before giving us back the serve and Caroline Griffin finishing off for a two-point win. Final score of 25 Portsmouth 27 Nute.
The second game started off with a bit of an issue with serves on both sides but Caroline Griffin and Abby Breton both brought their serves in to bring them ahead. After an injury to Marissa MacLeod, Ava Nunes stepped in and helped the team finish off with a 10-point lead win. Final score of 15 Portsmouth 25 Nute.
